Many companies have equal opportunity statements, and some even have statements regarding its commitment to DEI. A good handbook will go beyond a blanket or uniform statement and contain policies that address real and changing needs of a diverse workforce. Anti-discrimination and workplace accommodations should be reviewed by an attorney to ensure that they are thorough and compliant with the laws. Beyond legal compliance, handbooks should be audited to ensure that the language used throughout the document is inclusive, and that there are inclusive policies like access to gender-neutral restrooms and gender-neutral parental leave, to name just a few.
